The Doc’s Ferrite Ring with Lanyard and Clip is a convenient ground-balancing accessory designed for use with the Minelab GPZ 7000 metal detector. The included plastic lanyard and snap clip make it easy to secure the ferrite to your detecting harness, finds pouch, backpack, or other field gear.
Using a ferrite ring during the GPZ 7000 ground-balancing procedure provides the detector with additional reference information. This can help the detector achieve a more accurate ground balance, reduce responses from mineralized soil, and make faint gold signals easier to hear.
The attached lanyard keeps the ferrite close at hand when ground conditions change and helps prevent this small but important accessory from being misplaced in the field.
The GPZ 7000 uses Minelab’s Zero Voltage Transmission technology and requires a different ground-balancing technique than traditional pulse-induction detectors. Passing the search coil over the ferrite while holding the Quick-Trak trigger helps provide the detector with useful calibration data.
A properly ground-balanced detector can operate more smoothly in mineralized or changing soil conditions, allowing the operator to better distinguish potential gold targets from ground noise.
Find an open area free from metal targets.
Place the ferrite ring on the ground.
Turn on the GPZ 7000 and complete the Noise Cancel procedure.
Press and hold the Quick-Trak trigger.
Sweep the coil over the ferrite and surrounding ground in a wide figure-eight pattern.
Pass over the ferrite early and repeatedly during the procedure.
Continue until the detector remains quiet and stable when sweeping over the ferrite.
Release the Quick-Trak trigger and begin detecting.
Always consult the Minelab GPZ 7000 instructions for the complete recommended ground-balancing procedure.

Ferrite material is brittle and may chip or break if dropped or struck against a hard surface. The lanyard helps keep the ring secured, but the ferrite should still be handled and stored carefully.
