Recover fine gold, flakes and pickers with the compact 10″ × 35″ Big Foot Sluice from Prospector’s Dream. This ready-to-run stream sluice combines sturdy 16-gauge aluminum construction with a 10″ × approximately 24″ Vortex Dream Mat for effective gold recovery and fast cleanup.

The shorter Big Foot design is easier to position at the correct slope and more convenient to transport than a long traditional sluice. Its wide slick plate gives water and material room to spread before reaching the recovery mat, while the Dream Mat begins capturing gold at the leading recovery cells.

Vortex Dream Mat Recovery

The included Vortex Dream Mat uses molded cells to create controlled vortex action. As water passes through each cell, lighter material continues downstream while dense material—including gold and black sand—settles into the lower-pressure recovery zones.

This riffle-free system eliminates carpet, expanded metal and a traditional riffle tray. When it is time to clean up, remove the mat and rinse the concentrates into a bucket or gold pan.

This is a gravity-fed stream sluice. A pump, header box, hose, stand, legs, battery, recirculating tub and other powered-sluice components are not included.

Basic Stream Setup

Place the sluice in flowing water with the upper end facing upstream. Stabilize it securely with rocks or other suitable supports and adjust the slope until water flows evenly across the full width of the mat.

Begin with small amounts of material and observe the vortex cells. The cells should remain active while exchanging lighter material. If they remain completely packed, increase water flow, adjust the angle or reduce the feed rate. If material races through aggressively, reduce the slope or water velocity.

Field conditions vary, so adjust the sluice according to water depth, current, material size, clay content and black-sand concentration.

Cleanup

Stop feeding material and carefully lift the sluice from the stream while keeping it level. Release the slick-plate clamp, remove the Vortex Dream Mat and rinse the captured concentrates into a bucket, tub or gold pan.

The simple removable-mat design provides a fast cleanup without disassembling a conventional riffle tray.
