From Raw Gold to Finished Bars – Get the Right Flux for the Job!
Whether you're melting placer gold from your latest prospecting adventure, consolidating silver for casting, or working with precious-metal concentrates, having the proper flux can make a difference in your melting process.
Our All-Purpose White Melting Flux is a specially blended combination of three traditional smelting ingredients: anhydrous borax, soda ash, and silica sand.
Developed for use with Kwik Kiln melting systems, this versatile flux can also be used in other compatible high-temperature furnaces.
It's a practical choice for gold prospectors, small-scale refiners, jewelers, and precious-metal hobbyists.
Three-Ingredient Formula: Contains anhydrous borax, soda ash, and silica sand.
All-Purpose Application: Suitable for selected gold, silver, and copper melting operations.
Great for Placer Gold: Useful when consolidating properly prepared recovered gold.
Silver Concentrate Applications: Can be used for suitable silver-bearing ore concentrates.
Kwik Kiln Compatible: Developed specifically for compatible Kwik Kiln systems.
Works with Other Furnaces: Suitable for certain conventional precious-metal melting furnaces.
Convenient 1 lb Package: A practical quantity for hobbyists and small-scale metalworkers.
Flux is an important part of many precious-metal melting and smelting processes.
Depending on the material being processed, a suitable flux can help:
Promote formation of a fluid slag
Combine with certain nonmetallic impurities
Help separate molten metal from slag
Improve the handling of appropriate smelting charges
The correct flux depends on the metal, impurities, furnace, crucible, and intended result.
Important: Flux does not automatically purify gold or silver to a specific karat or fineness. Melting mixed metals together does not separate them into pure individual metals.
Borax is widely used in precious-metal melting and smelting.
It acts as a fluxing ingredient and helps form slag with certain metal oxides and impurities.
Soda ash is an alkaline flux component commonly used in smelting formulations.
It can react with certain impurities and contribute to the behavior of the molten slag.
Silica is a common slag-forming ingredient used in smelting.
Its usefulness depends on the chemistry of the material being processed and the overall flux blend.
Together, these ingredients create an all-purpose white flux intended for compatible precious-metal melting and smelting applications.
Melting Recovered Placer Gold
After panning, sluicing, or processing gold-bearing material, prospectors may want to consolidate their properly cleaned gold into a button or small bar.
Melting Silver
Suitable for selected small-scale silver melting applications and silver-bearing concentrates.
Gold-Silver-Copper Mixtures
Can be used with certain concentrates containing gold, silver, and copper when the goal is to recover a combined metal product rather than separate the metals individually.
Small-Scale Metal Casting
Useful for hobbyists working with appropriate precious-metal melting equipment and casting molds.
This white flux was developed for use in compatible Kwik Kiln propane-fired melting systems.
It may also be suitable for other conventional high-temperature furnaces when the furnace manufacturer permits its use.
Not for use inside microwave kilns.
Always verify that your crucible, furnace, and operating procedure are appropriate for the metal and flux being processed.

Can I use this flux to melt gold nuggets and flakes?
It is intended for precious-metal melting, including appropriately prepared placer gold. Whether flux is needed depends on the material and equipment.
Will this flux turn my gold into pure 24-karat gold?
No. Flux is not a substitute for refining or assaying. It does not guarantee removal of silver, copper, or other metals alloyed with gold.
Can I use it for silver?
Yes. It is advertised for melting silver and for selected silver-bearing concentrates.
Can I use it in a Kwik Kiln?
Yes. This formula was developed for compatible Kwik Kiln equipment.
Can I use it in a microwave gold kiln?
No. This particular product is not intended for microwave kilns.
Is white flux the same as black gold flux?
No. Different flux blends may contain different ingredients and be intended for different materials. Choose the formulation appropriate to your particular melting or smelting application.
Precious-metal melting and smelting involve extreme temperatures, molten metal, potentially hazardous dust, and harmful fumes.
Use suitable eye, face, hand, and body protection rated for the task.
Work with appropriate ventilation and dust controls.
Avoid breathing flux dust or fumes.
Keep all tools, crucibles, and charge materials dry.
Use only compatible high-temperature equipment.
Never introduce wet materials into molten metal.
Follow the furnace manufacturer's instructions and the product's Safety Data Sheet.
Do not process unknown, lead-bearing, arsenic-bearing, or otherwise hazardous concentrates without professional controls and appropriate expertise.
From recovered placer gold to small silver casting projects, All-Purpose White Melting Flux is a useful addition to a properly equipped precious-metal melting workspace.
Three Traditional Ingredients. Multiple Precious-Metal Applications. One Convenient 1 lb Package.
Available from **High Plains Prospectors – Your Source for Gold Prospecting, Melting & Smelting Equipment
An all-purpose flux, consisting of Sodium Tetraborate (Anhydrous Borax), Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash) and Silica Sand. Great for melting pure precious metals, such as gold, silver or copper, or smelting silver ore concentrates. Also works great with gold concentrates that have silver or copper in them that you wish to save (you will end up with an amalgam of precious metals). Especially developed for Kwik Kilns® but also works well with other furnaces (Not for use inside the microwave kiln.)
good common flux. easy button for most smelting.
