Product Information

Columbia River Gold Getter Drop-Riffle Sluice with 1/4″ Punch Plate

Sample gold-bearing material in shallow or slow-moving water with the compact Columbia River Gold Getter Drop-Riffle Sluice. Its integrated 1/4-inch punch plate screens out larger rocks and gravel before smaller material reaches the drop-riffle recovery section.

Measuring only 5″ wide × 17.25″ long, the Gold Getter is easy to carry and operate by hand. It is particularly useful where natural stream flow is too limited to run a conventional full-size sluice.

Integrated 1/4″ Punch Plate

The punch plate contains 1/4-inch openings that allow sand, fine gravel and heavy material to pass into the recovery section while retaining larger rocks and pebbles.

Removing oversized material before it reaches the drop riffles helps:

  • Reduce clogging

  • Maintain more consistent material movement

  • Prevent larger rocks from disturbing captured gold

  • Simplify material processing

  • Protect the recovery section from overloading

Drop-Riffle Gold Recovery

Instead of carpet, expanded metal and a removable riffle cage, the Gold Getter uses drop-riffle pockets formed into its recovery surface.

As water and classified material move across the sluice, dense particles drop into protected cavities below the primary flow. Lighter sand and sediment continue out of the unit while gold and other heavy material remain in the recovery pockets.

Basic Operation

Place the Gold Getter partially into a shallow body of water. Add a small amount of material to the punch plate and move water across it using a controlled dipping, rocking or washing motion.

Work the material until particles smaller than 1/4 inch pass through the punch plate. Remove and discard the oversized rocks after confirming that no visible gold is attached.

Continue moving water across the recovery section so lighter sediment clears from the drop riffles. Avoid aggressive movements that could wash dense material out of the unit.

Operating Tips

  • Process small amounts of material at a time.

  • Break apart clay before placing it on the punch plate.

  • Remove large rocks as they accumulate.

  • Keep the sluice level from side to side.

  • Use controlled movements rather than abrupt shaking.

  • Periodically inspect the drop riffles for excessive buildup.

  • Reduce the feed rate if light material remains packed in the riffles.

Cleanup

Stop adding material and allow lighter sediment to clear. Keep the unit level while lifting it from the water.

Position the Gold Getter over a bucket, tub or gold pan and rinse the drop-riffle contents into the container. No carpet, moss, expanded metal or conventional riffle tray must be removed.
